Vineyard and Winery Production Manager
For the past 3 years, Ben has been quietly working away in the background with Sam. He has been coaxing the very best out of our Churton fruit, inherently understanding the special characters that our vineyard provides to our fruit. In February 2019, Ben made the decision to join us full time and led our vineyard team through the very successful 2019 harvest.
Following the completion of his double degree in media and chemistry at Victoria University, Ben took on the challenge of leading Churton’s vineyard and viticulture team. The travel bug managed to pull him away from the family vineyard but never too far from wine. Ben’s favourite experiences were his overseas vintages at Bonny Doon in California, USA and M. Chapoutier in the Rhone Valley, France. Both wineries are known for their lateral thinking and commitment to organics/biodynamics and Ben absorbed the abundance of learnings from these two industry champions. Returning to New Zealand, Ben managed the innovative Mount Beautiful winery in Canterbury for five years.
Ben returns to Churton joining his brother Jack at the forefront of the business. Their youthful energy and commitment to quality will ensure Churton thrives for generations to follow.
